"To live content with small means.
To seek elegance rather than luxury.
And refinement rather than fashion;
To be worthy not respectable
To study hard, think quietly,
Talk gently, act frankly;
To listen to stars and birds,
To babes and sages with an open heart;
To bear all cheerfully, do all bravely,
Await occasions, hurry never;
To let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious,
Grow up through the common,
This is to be my symphony.
And refinement rather than fashion;
To be worthy not respectable
To study hard, think quietly,
Talk gently, act frankly;
To listen to stars and birds,
To babes and sages with an open heart;
To bear all cheerfully, do all bravely,
Await occasions, hurry never;
To let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious,
Grow up through the common,
This is to be my symphony.

Beautiful words
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. This is what I believe also. Harder to be than to mean to be - but life is for trying. I loved your comment Christina. I don't know if you go back to read answers, and I haven't answered yet, so I am going to tell you that I value the life you share with me, and I am grateful that you welcome me here.
ReplyDeleteThis really moved me. This is what it's all about. I think if people traded the "american dream" for this beautiful symphony...well, you know. :)
